Throw Back Thursday
USD 489 Early Childhood Connections was started in 1991. These photos are a fun look back through time at the faces and events that make-up our history.
If you have a photo or piece of memorabilia to contribute, please contact Dana Stanton at 785-623-2430.
This Throwback Thursday features an article in the December 2014, Hays Daily News. Members of the FHSU Men's Basketball team read to students in Jade Staab and Sami Vanek's preschool classroom at Roosevelt Elementary. The students in pictures would be around 11 years old today!!

This submission is from the 10-21-2003 edition of the Hays Daily News and features Washington Elementary Head Start Teacher, Jessica Wagner and her students.

This submission is from 2006 and shows Dave Dunn and Grandson T. at a Daddy and Me event. Dave, the husband of retired Connections Coordinator Joan Dunn, passed away in 2020. We have many happy memories of Dave's contributions to the program, including dressing up as a clown and making balloon animals for the kids at Connections functions.

This 2007 photo shows members of the PATHS (Parents as Teacher Early Head Start) staff members. Previously the PATHS program was located at Hays High School. Parent Educators served both Parents as Teachers and Early Head Start families.

This May 16, 1995 clipping from the Hays Daily News features the Foster Grandparent program. The Connections program still benefits from the Foster Grandparent program today. We love having Grandma Rita and Grandma Kris in our classroom! If you read the article you will see mention of classroom teacher, Sharon Beougher (now the Connections Education Coordinator). Also featured in the photograph is student Sharol Fetterolf, the daughter of current Connections RTI Teacher Dee Beougher. Sharol (now Wilkins) is currently a senior at FHSU studying Psychology and Sociology and a Connections Mom herself. Love seeing our Connections family grow and succeed over the decades!

This July 9, 2003 clipping from the Hays Daily News features Connections Director, Donna Hudson-Hamilton.

This September 1996 clipping from the Hays Daily News features, retired teacher Ginny Hoernicke. Some of her comments about the future of Head Start turned out to be prophetic! We have moved on to full-day classes.

This June 2003 clipping from the Hays Daily News features Staci Biskie. Did you know that all Connections Teacher Assistants are required to attain their CDA credential? Staci is currently a part of the team in Aubrey Woolf's classroom. Thanks for your work in the classroom over the years!
